ACUPUNCTURE

Acupuncture is the insertion of very fine, single use sterile needles (on average 0.18mm thick) into specific locations on the body called acupoints. Acupuncture points are located along 12 main channels called meridians, which run vertically along the front and back of the body. This meridian system is a network of 'vessels' for the flow of the body's life-force called Qi (pronounced Chee). The acupoints are where Qi can be accessed and influenced. Acupuncture promotes the movement of Qi & Blood, strengthens weakness, reduces excesses & stimulates the body's own healing response. After conducting a comprehensive Chinese Medicine diagnosis, the practitioner will select acupuncture points on various points of the body to help restore and maintain your body's natural balance. Acupuncture treatments are generally painless. The sensation associated with needle insertion is a dull ache which lasts for a millisecond, after which you will not feel any needle sensation. Needles are then retained for 10-30 minutes, during which time you will be allowed to relax, close your eyes, meditate or sleep while the acupuncture takes effect.

HERBAL MEDICINE

Chinese herbs are effective in treating a wide range of health conditions with little to no side effects. It is based on a rich body of knowledge developed over thousands of years of clinical practice. For almost any health condition your body can create, there is an herbal formula that is designed specifically to target that problem.

A prescription containing 5-20 will be tailored specifically for your health requirements. The term 'herbs' encompasses plant material, minerals and a small number of animal products.

Herbal formulas can be prepared in several different forms and are generally taken morning & night: -

RAW HERBS: A bag of herbs in raw form that you boil & then drink the remaining liquid, called a decoction. This process can be time consuming & the taste unpalatable. Its strengths lie in the fact that it is quickly and easily absorbed into the body, can be tailored to your specific needs and provides excellent therapeutic benefits.

GRANULES: Herbs are concentrated & powdered for ease of use. They can be simply dissolved in water & taken. Due to the amount of processing involved in their production they tend to be more expensive than raw herbs but provide comparable results to the raw herbs.

TINCTURE: Herbs are steeped in an alcohol solution for several weeks. This removes the need for boiling herbs but formulas are less tailored.

PATENT PILLS: Traditional herbal formulas processed into pills. They are a convenient way to take herbal medicine and useful for people who are time poor or who have a sensitive palate to drinking herbs. Pills are not as potent as raw or granule herbs & less tailored.

MOXIBUSTION & CUPPING

MOXIBUSTION & CUPPING

Moxibustion is a form of heat therapy which involves the burning of a Chinese herb called mugwort on or near an acupuncture point to warm the area and meridian-organ system. The herb comes pre-rolled as a cigar which is then lit and held close to the skin and then removed before it becomes too hot for the patient. A loose form of the herb is sometimes moulded into cone shapes which are then placed directly on the skin or on top of a slice of ginger or layer of salt. The burning herb is removed before becoming too hot and leaves no burning or scarring on the skin.

Cupping is a process in which a vacuum is created inside a glass cup which is then placed onto the skin. The vacuum then gently draws the skin and caused increased circulation to the area. The purpose is to encourage the flow of Qi & Blood and to eliminate pathogens and toxins from the body. Sometimes cupping can leave marking on the skin that looks similar to a bruise, which usually disappears within a few days depending on the level of discolouration.

Cupping & Moxibustion are often used as part of an acupuncture treatment.

The beauty of Shonishin is its simplicity, gentleness, and effectiveness.

OSTEOPATHY

Each person, condition and injury is unique so osteopathic treatments will vary from person to person. Your osteopath will ask questions about your problem and symptoms. They may also ask about your medical history, any medications you are taking, as well as factors that may not appear to be directly related to your problem. Your osteopath will conduct a full osteopathic examination and if necessary, clinical tests, this may involve diagnostic, orthopaedic or neurological tests, postural assessments and activities or exercises that will determine how best to manage your condition. The examination may include passive and active movements, such as the osteopath lifting your arms or legs. Osteopathy takes a holistic approach to treatment, so your practitioner may look at other parts of your body, as well as the area that is troubling you. For example, if you have a sore knee, your osteopath may also look at your ankle, pelvis and back. Osteopathy is a manual therapy, so hands-on treatment may include massage, stretching, repetitive movements, mobilisation and/or manipulation. Most osteopathic treatments are gentle and should not cause undue discomfort. If your injuries do require hands-on treatment of painful and tender areas, your osteopath will exercise care to make you as comfortable as possible. Your osteopath may also provide education and advice to help you manage your condition between appointments. This may include giving you exercises to do at home or work. Osteopaths treat more than you think. They focus on how your skeleton, joints, muscles, nerves, circulatory system, connective tissue and internal organs function as a whole body unit. A visit to the osteopath does not require a referral. Osteopathy is covered by most private health funds and Medicare’s Chronic Disease Management (CDM) plans. Osteopaths are registered providers for patients under the Transport Accident Commission, WorkCover and Department of Veterans’ Affairs.

CRYSTAL REIKI

CRYSTAL REIKI

Crystal reiki incorporates crystals with their energies and the energy from reiki in a healing. It allows body and mind healing in a safe and respected environment. Reiki is a peaceful practice that allows a deep healing within, clearing your mind and freeing your spirit. Reiki practitioners do not use their own energy in healing but that of the universal energy. Understanding energy and the different kinds of energy that we encounter in everyday life is essential for a practitioner. This allows them to be able to empathise with clients and sense changes in their energy field. In reiki we allow the energy to move through the body to where the healing needs to occur, along with balancing 7 chakras. Crystal Reiki is a safe practice and suitable for all ages. In a reiki session a client may feel a whole body calmness wash over them, just like being in a meditative space. They may also experience a warm or cool sensation, tingles and a static electricity feeling in the area I am working. Practitioners may practice with a hands on or hands off approach, however both ways are just as effective.
