JEN'S 5 TIPS FOR HEALING YOUR ADRENALS

Written by Jen Frankcoomb-Campbell (Crystal Reiki, Children's Nutrition, Health & Wellness Coaching)

Adrenal fatigue or exhaustion. Have you heard of it?

You may or may not have, but I am certain most of you would have or will be dealing with issues surrounding the adrenals. As mentioned in previous blogs, I am currently studying my Bachelor of Health Science where I am learning about the human body in-depth and I unfortunately suffer from adrenal exhaustion quite often due to my autoimmune dis-ease. And with the craziness that is 2020, I see it a lot in my clients, family and friends.

The Adrenals are glands that sit on top of the kidneys, just like little hats, they are part of the endocrine system which produce our hormones. These hormones control our metabolism, growth and development, reproduction, sleep, moods, emotions and more!! Hands up if you've heard of the term "fight or flight"? or you've heard someone say "I'm running on adrenaline"?... You guessed it, these little hats of glands are where it all happens.

Adrenaline increases your heart rate, elevates your blood pressure and boosts energy supplies, hence the term "running on adrenaline". Cortisol, the primary stress hormone, increases sugars (glucose) in the bloodstream, enhances your brain's use of glucose and increases the availability of substances that repair tissues (Chronic stress puts your health at risk, 2019, March 19).

If you're suffering from adrenal fatigue/exhaustion you may also notice you have stubborn belly fat that won't leave no matter what, this is due to high levels of cortisol being produced when we are in a constant state of fight or flight. It means that our stress levels are constantly high and our body and our adrenals aren't resting properly, which means they aren't functioning properly and our body is full of stress and anxiety...Which may cause dis-ease in the body which may lead into chronic illnesses. This then creates our nervous system to work in overdrive, which in turns causes an array of symptoms and possible dis-ease.

Symptoms and signs may include:

  • Not waking up refreshed.

    1. That 3pm slump, alert around 6pm, sleepy around 9pm and alert again around 11pm feels.

    2. Constant anxiety, and sometimes for no particular reason.

    3. Nervousness.

    4. Body weakness and exhaustion.

    5. Dragging yourself through the day

    6. Tired and heavy eyes.

    7. Headaches.

    8. Constant feeling of needing to urinate.

    9. Issues with your digestion.

So, here's my 5 tips to help balance the nervous system and relax the adrenals:

1  Crystal Reiki, this helps to shift the stress energy and tension from your body and mind. Which will help you think clearer and handle situations better, plus it promotes better sleep quality. Feel free to message for more info or to book for a healing.

2  Deep breathing, sounds simple yeah? Well that's because it is. Take off your shoes, clothes your eyes and just be. Inhale in the the nose and fill up your entire body with fresh air, count to 5 and then exhale through the mouth - repeat 5 times. Breathing helps circulate the blood around your body and releases built up tension.

3 Calm & Clear Mist (Australian Bush Flower Essence). Not only does this essence smell amazing, but it also washes over you in waves of peace and contentment. It works on a vibrational level which clears that overwhelm and stress from your energy. Feel free to message for more info about the essence)

4 Good nutrition!! Ditch or reduce intake of sugars, soft drinks, processed foods, caffeine, alcohol, smokes and fatty foods. These all promote stress in the body and then makes us crave for more and feel blah! Eat more wholefoods - fresh fruits and veggies, adequate water, nuts & seeds.. You know all that "healthy" stuff!! (Watch out for my next blog - Relaxation Custard!).

5 Yoga & Meditation. Stretching and strengthening your mind and body makes for happy days. Mindfulness and slowdown in your body helps your adrenals to calm down and stop producing an overload of cortisol. Plus, it helps you to unwind, sleep better and assist digestion.

Remember to consult your health professional if needed.

I hope you all find peace and calm within and without and embrace the current 2020 feels.
