NUTRIENT PACKED SUPER FOOD HOT CHOCOLATE
Any time you can add a Superfood to your diet is a win and this particular recipe has the option to add in quite a few. I have been enjoying this drink for close to a decade and I still love it!
The main ingredient, raw cacao (the raw unprocessed version of cocoa) is full of antioxidants, iron, magnesium and calcium and like its chocolate cousin it is a natural mood lifter.
If you choose to add in the Maca powder, you will be adding in a good source of carbs and fibre. It is also high in some essential vitamins and minerals, such as vitamin C, copper and iron and it has also been shown to help alleviate the symptoms of menopause.
Cinnamon is antifungal/viral, anti-inflammatory and helps to lower blood sugar levels while sea salt adds in a host of other essential minerals (84 to be exact) and electrolytes and supports the adrenals.
All this goodness in such a simple, delicious drink and there is no need to save this one for winter with our current Romsey weather! This recipe is also great to use as a coffee substitute if you are trying to cut it out or down…
Ingredients for one:
1 Cup of milk – what you use is up to you! Coconut milk is excellent for this recipe as it lends some sweetness and heats well but any other alternative you prefer will work well.
1 Tablespoon of Raw Cacao powder (Fair trade and Organic is best)
Sweetener to taste – Honey is delicious, but swap it out for Maple syrup to make it vegan.
A dash of Cinnamon powder
A pinch of Sea Salt
Optional extras: - A dash of Vanilla for a calming, mellow version- 1 teaspoon of Maca powder for a nuttier flavour- A dash of Cayenne pepper for a Mexican inspired hot chocolate- ½ a teaspoon of Turmeric for an Anti-inflammatory boost- ½ a teaspoon of Coconut oil for extra creaminess and good fats
Method:
