Lymphatic Drainage

LYMPHAPTIC DRAINAGE

What is the Lymphatic System?

The lymphatic system is an integral part of the body’s immune system and detoxification pathways. It transports lymph, a fluid containing white blood cells, throughout the organs and tissues of the body through an intricate network to fight infections and remove metabolic waste byproducts / toxins such as chemicals, bacteria, dead cells, excess proteins & hormones.

Why get Lymphatic Drainage?

Lymph fluid can build up in the body tissues due to certain health conditions, preventing the lymphatic system from functioning correctly which then causes health issues. Lymphatic drainage massage helps stimulate lymph circulation throughout the body with the use of gentle, rhythmic massage technique.

The main goal of lymphatic drainage is to increase the efficiency of the lymphatic and circulatory system to drain retained fluid, boost the immune system and eliminate accumulated toxic waste. It also helps prevent swelling in many forms including, after surgery, tattoo removal or swelling induced by an injury.

The main goal of lymphatic drainage is to increase the efficiency of the lymphatic and circulatory system. If the amount of excess fluid in the lymphatic system can be reduced, the risk of impaired circulation is also reduced. This in turn increases the capacity of the lymphatic system to quickly drain retained fluids and any accumulated toxic waste.

What does a Lymphatic Drainage treatment look like?

Lymphatic drainage involves gentle massage techniques that only affect the superficial surface layer of the skin. With a series of long gliding strokes and circular motion, it stimulates the lymph nodes, which filter harmful substances in the lymphatic fluid, and direct toxins to the tissues responsible for their excretion. Cleansing the lymph nodes of excess fluid prevents swelling and supports the immune system. Over a 60 minute full body treatment we look into the several main clusters of Lymph nodes in order to find any blockages and areas with excess swelling.

It should be noted that an initial consultation or history check is recommended before receiving lymphatic drainage to see if it is suitable for you. It should be noted that it is not recommended for people with certain health problems, such as: -

  • Congestive heart failure

  • History of stroke or blood clots

  • Current infection

  • Kidney problems

  • Liver problems

  • Skin infection

If I can’t have a treatment right away, what can I do?

As the lymphatic system doesn't have a conventional ‘pump’, Lymph is pushed around the body through the movement of muscles. While your muscles are moving, they 'massage' your lymphatic system which in turn improves lymph flow. Regular exercise is the best way to keep your lymph system flowing smoothly. Some people consider jumping up and down to be the best way to stimulate lymph flow, where any type of consistent exercise will do the trick.
