GETTING OVER POST-COVID FATIGUE

Written by a Chinese Medicine Practitioner

If there’s been a season in Melbourne, it seems to have been COVID season leaving people feeling tired and drained after the bout of the virus. If you’re feeling the post-COVID fatigue or any sort of fatigue for that matter, we have a few tips to nourishing your body back to full vigour.

Fatigue in Chinese Medicine points us to our body’s life force known as ‘Qi’ which catalyses the extraction of nutrients from our food and circulates these to our muscles, bones, sinews and blood. When our Qi is weak or not available to us due to blockages, fatigue may result.

Bouts of illness often depletes our body’s Qi as this energy is required to expel and process the pathogen (in this case, COVID-19). Although you may be over the stuffy nose, coughing fits and general feeling of bleurgh; your body still has energy taxation to make up for. So here’s our top three tips to recovery from fatigue.

Getting the rest you need:

Sleep is our bodies’ prime healing time. Getting quality sleep is influenced by multiple factors. General guidelines include:

-       Sleeping at sundown and rising with the sun.

-       Maintaining good sleep hygiene by limiting screen time at night.

For chronic sleep conditions, seek specific advice and treatment from your Chinese Medicine practitioner.

Giving your body quality nutrients:

Our energy builder is often thought of as the Spleen in Chinese Medicine. Foods that nourish the Spleen are:

-       Rice

-       Yams

-       Sweet potatoes

-       Beans

Gifting the body an extra boost:

Some classic TCM herbs for building the body’s energy can be had in teas to supplement rest and nourishment:

-       Red dates

-       Ginseng

-       Liquorice

-       Astragalus

We hope these energy boosting tips help you regain your vitality after COVID-exhaustion. If you would like support from our practitioners, Chinese Medicine may be effective in improving the quality of sleep, nutrient absorption and enriching your daily energy.

To vitality and an energetic 2022!
